Oh, there's a lot of times when you shouldn't develop your employees.

Do you have an important project that requires time with a C-Level employee who has a reputation for being a &^$*??? Don't develop an employee, that project is for a seasoned Director/Manager.

Do you have a project with high sales potential? Don't develop an employee, that project is for a seasoned Director/Manager.

Do you have a project with Management Consultants? Don't develop an employee, there will be a stink tied to that project and you'll depress your employees. Give that project to a seasoned Director/Manager who knows how to balance internal resources with external expectations.

You know what to do. Go do it!
